Caribu
UX at Mattel
While at Mattel, I worked on Caribu, our family video-calling app that also integrates books and activities. I designed difficulty badges for the games on the platform.
Problem
When choosing games from the catalog, there was no way to determine the difficulty level of the game.

Solution
Several solutions were proposed, but many weren’t feasible due to backend limitations. To work around this, I designed difficulty badges that overlay game icons, refining multiple variations before selecting two sets for user testing.

Testing
We conducted a study using UzerZoom to find out which design more clearly indicates that there are 5 difficulty levels. With these results, we were able to move forward with a data supported badge design. The badges were released as a new feature in the next Caribu update.
